C C C I live in the present civilization as it exists at this moment, without believing in it. I remain true to myself and true to others in ways that do not harm myself. I nonetheless live consciously in the universe at large, spiritually separate and mentally apart from the existence of others. Often there is interaction with human beings as taste and desire suggest. This in no way interferes with or contradicts any of these principles. C C C Civilizations do exist. But they are not ultimate, immortal, or infallible in purpose or theme. Rather, every civilization is finite in time, composed of outcomes previously intended or incidentally brought about through the actions of persons usually no longer in existence, for reasons many of which also no longer exist. C C C Desire is a biological device intended to motivate the individual organism to get what it needs. Love is an invisible contrivance employed by the organism for the purpose of motivating one individual to become involved with another, and can occur simultaneously in two individuals, each of which is attracted to the other. Reproduction is only one of the beneficial potentials of these animal inventions. Though love and desire are similar in some ways, they are not the same. C C C Sex is a method of entanglement. For some organisms it functions as the primary component of relationships. That is not all that it is or can be. C C C We say we have faith when we believe something we don't know. When we know a thing, we don't say we believe in it, we say that we know it. Faith and knowledge are mutually exclusive. C C C Most of what passess for justice and law is nothing more than the arbitrary preference of the dominant force. C C C The main purpose which art serves is accomplished as each work is being created. The sharing of finished works with other people fulfills a secondary function. C C C If I am as careful in the perfection of my honest methods, as they are in the practice of their dishonest ones, I will do better than they. C C C One important difference between a language expert and a poet is that the expert knows all the ways in which the language should be used; whereas, the poet understands that the language belongs as much to himself as to anyone. C C C It is not unusual, when someone has done something notorious, that many condemn the person outright, rejecting all that the person has said and done. But that is not best, for even these men are right about some things. And often the things about which they are right are elegant and rare. C C C Life sometimes presents issues which are so difficult or complex that they can only be hammered out while still white-hot, on the cold, hard anvil of life. C C C The achieving of a thing is a sounder proof of one's right and authority to do it, than is the ability to find fault with it an indication of any authority to condemn it. C C C Reason is a product of the biological mind. You don't even have to believe in a thing beforehand; if you simply go ahead and do it, the reason will subsequently be produced for you by your mind, if you need a reason. Not only that, but you can consciously choose from among a whole array of potentially satisfactory reasons, if you want to, from among good ones and better ones. This means that use of the word 'relative,' in describing 'good,' is not accurate. It also means that reason is not an absolute, but is as much a function of mind as dreaming or imagination. Whether reason is solely a function of material existence is a separate question. C C C There is a difference between boldness and aggression, and it is sometimes a very small difference, but between aggression and hostility there is no difference at all. There are ways of communicating helpful information that do not involve boldness, aggression, or hostility, but none of them is accurately called criticism. C C C It is only because other people are not in power, that the ones doing the locking up today are not the ones being locked up. C C C C C C [New postings are added to the final page.]
