Box

by Robert Hampton Burt

The note said, "DO NOT OPEN THIS BOX!" So, naturally, she opened it.
She discovered why not, because the contents killed her in the act
of escaping.

Then it must have flown away, for there were no tracks.
Her remains were not identifiable. All of her skin had been
burned
off of her, her soft tissue
had been turned to ash, and her teeth and
bones were pulverized completely.
No one knows who she was or where she came from.
But it's clear she opened the box.
